5 Times the Mountains Made Me Smile
You may have already gathered, by the name of this blog, that I am quite the fan of large natural elevations of the earth’s surface rising abruptly from the surrounding level. Mountains are what brings me joy. But I also think that they are an untapped tool that everyone could benefit from. So here are five (out of many) things that I enjoy about the mountains.
1. The never ending hiking adventures
I believe that exercise outdoors trumps a workout in a gym any day. It is not only good for your body but you would be surprised how much your mind benefits too.

2. Taking a breath
Sometimes the best cure for a busy mind is just to find a nice place to take some deep breaths. When I get the chance to do this in the presence of mountains, I experience the added bonus of being reminded how small we really are (in the nicest, most humbling way) and that the world is a big place where life just continues to grow.

3. Grounding views
Continuing on from what I touched on in 2. Being at the top of a mountain and looking back down never fails to fill me with a flurry of emotions. I not only gain hope for the future but also gratitude for the present. It may all sound a bit hocus pocus but there is something about the strong, rooted trees and the solid structure of the rocks, covering the huge landforms, that just puts everything in perspective.

4. The joy for Simon
This point may seem like a bit of a cop-out but.. whatever brings joy and a smile! I love the happiness that the mountains bring my puppy, Simon Garfunkel. He walks with me every morning, constantly exploring and looking for new trees to nestle under. He also always helps to find the path back home!

5. Spontaneous, refreshing swims
Sometimes on a hike, finding a place to swim can be the most rewarding thing! Not only do you feel close to nature, you also feel like a hardcore jungle warrior, living from the land.
